National Park Service Eielson Visitor’s Center
RSA Engineering provided mechanical and electrical design for the National Park Service Eielson Visitor Center. The facility included a remote utility building for mechanical and electrical central systems including a generator, inverter and battery room, water treatment, sprinkler tank, and boiler pumps. The main building included an employee apartment, break room, public restrooms, and display areas that provide dramatic views of Mt. McKinley. The building obtained LEED Platinum Certification and has innovative electrical and mechanical systems including the use of photovoltaic solar panels and a small hydroelectric plant for inverter power, CO2 based control of fresh air using an air to air heater recovery ventilation unit, as well as potable water for domestic use at sinks and non-potable water to toilet fixtures for water conservation.
