Chugach Optional Elementary School Addition/Renovation
RSA Engineering provided mechanical and electrical design services for an addition and renovation at this 40,041 SF facility. The design included upgrading the existing water service to accommodate a new sprinkler system, providing performance specifications for the new sprinkler system, plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, DDC systems for the addition, replacing all existing domestic water piping, providing a new domestic hot water source. Additional upgrades included modifying the existing underfloor waste lines to accommodate the new addition, replacing the boilers with 2 new boilers, new glycol heat exchangers, replacing the existing combination DDC/pneumatic control system with a new DDC system, lighting, power, signal, and telecommunications systems for the addition, replacing the existing panel boards, replacing lighting throughout the existing school, replacing the existing conventional zoned fire alarm system with a new addressable system, new telecommunications systems with a category 6 telephone/data system, new digital clock/intercom/sound system and dedicated sound system in the Gym including a hearing impaired system to comply with ADA guidelines, and a new security system for the entire facility. This project won the 2006 International Illumination Design Alaska Section Award and an Honor Award from DesignShare in 2006.
