Chefornak K-12 School Renovation And Addition
RSA Engineering provided a mechanical and electrical site survey, as well as an itemized report of the energy usage, building code, and life safety corrections necessary in the existing school. RSA then provided a mechanical and electrical design for a complete renovation of the existing building and a new addition. The new building (including the addition) is approximately 44,000 square feet. This remodel completely gutted the existing building and, using just the shell, doubled the size of the school. The 18,000 square foot facility was designed to provide educational facilities for 110 K-12 grade students in this remote, Bearing Sea coastal community.
The mechanical systems included all new fire protection, heating, ventilation, and plumbing. The electrical systems included exterior and interior lighting, power, telecommunication and signal system, heat-trace system, and overhead medium voltage utility distribution system rerouting. On-site school support systems included in the project design are a heating plant, stand-by generator system, and a water and waste water treatment plant.
